Energy supplier launches light bulb scheme

One of the UK's leading gas and electricity suppliers has launched a new scheme to promote the use of energy efficient light bulbs.

British Gas's new plans are to distribute 52 million bulbs to 13 million households across Britain, which it is hoped will lead to customers reducing their emissions by nine million tonnes.

The company is also launching an advertising campaign to highlight how people can benefit from using energy saving bulbs rather than traditional lighting.

Gearoid Lane, director of British Gas New Energy, said that switching bulbs is a "small step" that can make a "big difference".

"We know that our customers want to reduce their carbon footprint and also save money. Through our distribution of 52 million energy saving light bulbs, we will be providing them with an opportunity to do both," he added.

British Gas also recently launched a new scheme designed to encourage schools to become more energy efficient.

The Generation Green initiative is to provide educational resources to teachers and promote the benefits of greener living.ADNFCR-1054-ID-18588469-ADNFCR
